A Little About Myself

I was born and raised in Calgary, AB and have always shown an interest in creativity even from a young age. No matter where I was, I always found myself craving the need to be creative whether it was drawings on paper or physical hands-on projects.

In my youth, I remember times when I would be driving around as a passenger throughout Calgary for scheduled activities or appointments and couldn’t help but notice all of the branding and logos around as I would pass by them. I would observe companies that stuck out to me and would examine and compare what emotions each brand would give me. From colour theory and different fonts used to the logos and design styles created, I couldn’t help but wonder who were the masterminds behind all these brands and how rewarding it must feel to have their creative work be on display for everyone to see. The designs affixed on buildings, billboards or even television excited me tremendously.

Besides the world of design, I always had an interest in the automotive industry from muscle car builds to expensive exotic cars. Besides automobiles, I was always quite active in sports including some football, track and field and lacrosse. Quality time with my family and friends is very important to me which means that is where you’ll most likely find me in my spare time . After graduating high school, I worked at an automotive dealership for a few years and eventually made my way into the auto body industry. My original thoughts were that this could be a way to express my creativity again, seeing as I lost touch with art and design throughout my teens. After spending several years inside auto body shops, the excitement of that industry was fading and I started to enjoy it less and less which made me feel defeated. After leaving the auto body industry to find my next venture, I was introduced to an opportunity to give Graphic Design a shot. I started working at a couple of small start ups and learned about industry standard softwares and eventually became hooked.

I started to remember those times as a child when company logos and brands would catch my eye and something clicked inside me. I knew I was on to something good and that the signs were all leading to the same path. I eventually decided to enrol at an art college in Vancouver, BC and learn even more about the industry. After graduation, I moved back to Calgary and started up my small graphic design company where I have been working hard at it ever since.

Holdershaw Creative

I am an independent graphic designer and well knowledged in diverse creative problem solving. These skills help me find solutions for the visual challenges we see today in modern businesses.

Defending the process of design thinking is how I create and help revitalize brands, develop innovative products and ultimately effect positive change. I have learned through experience that you cannot understand a brand, it’s customers and the market it exists in without adopting a truly holistic mindset.

Every business is unique and therefore requires a unique approach to creating or recreating their brands. I find that businesses are often at different stages of growth and it takes a hands on approach to creating and maintaining each brand uniquely.
